Obituary

Martha Lee Johnson Condry was born on July 10th, 1935, and passed away on April 25 th , 2024, at the age of 88 years. She was a beloved wife, mom, aunt, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Martha was born in San Antonio, Texas to Palmer and Lena Johnson and spent her formative years in Asherton, Texas, when her family moved and began a dairy farm. She loved the goats and cows on the farm and always had a dog for a faithful companion. She attended and graduated from Carrizo Springs High School with the Class of 1953. She attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, Texas and further
developed her love of singing as she qualified to be a member of the Texas Lutheran College Choir as a Contralto. Her deeper tones and her innate ability to harmonize became a passion she continued for many years in the First United Methodist Church Choir in Carrizo Springs, Texas.

She began work at the Dimmit County Courthouse before spending most of her working career in the administrative offices of Tesoro Petroleum Refinery in Carrizo Springs. She worked her way through the secretarial administrative levels and became an office manager where she oversaw planning, directing and running the optimum day-to-day operations of the administrative department of the refinery. Those who worked with Martha said she was a tremendous boss, who always pitched in to help when a large task was assigned to the group. She always supported the people who collaborated with her. When the refinery closed, Martha utilized her administrative skills and worked in the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) office in Carrizo Springs, Crystal City and Cotulla, Texas, where her
considerable skills and experiences contributed greatly in providing services to the agricultural industry. Throughout her career, she was known for her hard work, dedication, professionalism, and passion for helping others.

Martha married Wendel Condry on October 21 st , 1967, in the Methodist Church in Carrizo Springs. Where she once spent her free time as an accomplished bowler who won several trophies with her team in bowling competitions and participating in many activities in the First United Methodist Church and Choir, her world began to include hunting, fishing, and camping trips, and she soon became a beloved member of Wendel's family. Wendel brought his son, Jim, to live with them in Carrizo Springs and Martha loved her time organizing their family. She managed school requirements and activities and planned summer vacations that took them on numerous adventures that made lifelong memories. Aunt Martha and Uncle Wendel became beloved members in the lives of their nieces and nephews as well.

Martha's greatest moments were spent as "Memaw", with her grandchildren, Hagen and Kayla. She marveled at all they accomplished and loved to support them in all their activities. An even greater joy came when Brooke, Baylee, Brett, Trey, and Copen became her great-grandchildren. She loved to attend their events when possible. Martha kept a family calendar of birthdays, anniversaries, and other
events so she could send cards, make calls, and genuinely remember each family member and friend on their special day. She always offered support and encouragement to all her family.

Throughout her life, Martha has been involved in the love and caring for many special dogs from her beloved, Flaxie to her incredibly special, Pepper, and many in between. These special family members brought hours of love and companionship to Martha. After retirement, Martha and Wendel began a cow/calf operation that quickly became a special time when they fed and attended to their herd. Martha always loved the appearance of new babies and as her health waned in recent years, she always looked forward to her trips to see them as often as possible.

Martha is survived by her husband of 56 years, Wendel; her son, Jim (Diane) Condry; her grandchildren, Hagen (Melody) Condry and Kayla (Jay) Reaves; and her great-grandchildren Reynaldo (Trey) Vivian, Jr., Copen Condry, Brooke Reaves, Baylee Reaves, and Brett Reaves. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, many great nieces and great nephews and her brother-in-law, Spade (Diana) Condry. Special love and gratitude go to Annette Schwab for her friendship, support, sound advice and care during the days that were great for Martha and those that were the most challenging.
