Refugia Gonzales Garcia, 86, of Carrizo Springs, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on April 20, 1940, in Cotulla, Texas, to Victor Gonzales and Dominga Q. Gonzales.

Refugia was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Selma G. Najera; and her siblings, Sofia G. Balderas, Elida Garcia, Victor Gonzales, Tomas Gonzales, Elma Diaz, and Yolanda Chapa.

She is survived by her loving husband of more than 60 years, Eloy H. Garcia; her sister, Dominga Garcia; her brother, Gilberto Gonzales; her daughters, Esmeralda Nandin (Edgar Nandin) and Dalia Garcia (Michael Fuentes); and her cherished grandchildren, Yvette Salinas (Federico Salinas), Sabrina Garcia Hale (Micheal Hale), Zachary Najera, Marissa Najera, and Alexander Garcia.

She was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Eliseo Salinas, Sylas Salinas, Gavin Salinas, and Mateo Hale, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure her memory.

Family and friends are invited to honor Refugia's life on Friday, July 24, 2026, with visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Leonard Funeral Home in Carrizo Springs. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, with Mass beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Zachary Najera, Alexander Garcia, Michael Fuentes, Sergio Diaz, Tony Olvera, and Carlos Balderas. Honorary pallbearers will be Alexis Gaytan and Federico Salinas.
